Cocoon has been designed as a secure device so we bake security into everything we do. Our team are highly experienced in securing data in the cloud at very large scales (Petabyte and beyond), and with very large volumes of customers - over half a million users. We take great care to ensure that you and your data are protected in the most effective and up to date way.
We’ve designed Cocoon as to limit the risk of your data falling into the wrong hands by securely storing your encryption keys on your smartphone. This means that only you and the people you added to your Cocoon household have access to your personal data held on your Cocoon device, keeping you safe from a multitude of brute force attacks.
Cocoon processes almost all of your data on the device itself, and only sends information to our secure cloud services when there is an alert or if you request it - like when you stream live video of your home. This limits the amount of data being transmitted and we take care of the data that is being transmitted with layers of encryption and other data security best practices, such as each Cocoon being designed by default to not accept any incoming network connections, so there is no unauthorised access to the sensors and hardware components. Audio and video data from your Cocoon is encrypted at transport and at rest in our cloud services. Our experienced engineers monitor these services around the clock to ensure they remain reliable and secure.
Those same engineers have even gone as far as to get a second professional opinion to avoid the smallest doubt. We think it’s important that independent testing is important, so we regularly get external security companies to test our systems to make sure your privacy is as secure as possible. Prior to Cocoon’s launch we worked with a highly experienced external security company to examine our systems for weaknesses. The report found no major issues and concluded "Cocoon and its supporting services have been developed to a high standard”, and that “It is clear that the technology team and developers within the organisation have a high degree of knowledge with regard to information security issues". We see this as confirmation of what we already know, that your data is safe with Cocoon.
